The Corinth-Alcorn Couty Humane Society is a private, non-profit organization set up for the purposes of providing love, food and shelter to homeless pets in Corinth and Alcorn County; to alleviate suffering of injured or sick animals; to educate the public about pet overpopulation; to promote spaying and neutring to help stop the killing of unwanted animala; and to place as many pets as possible in loving, responsible homes.
To these ends, the CACHS operates an animal shelter located at 3825 Proper Street in Corinth, MS. This shelter is an open access shelter serving dogs and cats only (no exotic or wild animals). This shelter also serves as the municipal pound under contract with the Cities of Corinth and Farmington, MS. We are NOT a "no-kill" shelter, though we wish that it would never be neccesary to euthanise any animal.
We receive public funding from Alcorn County, and contract funding from the City of Corinth and The City of Farmington. While very generous, these funds only cover the basic operating costs of the shelter and do not provide all the funds needed to feed, medicate, vacinate and house animals for an indefinite amount of time. All animals are kept for at least 5 days, unless they are so unhealthy or aggressive as to be a risk to the staff, volunteers or other animals in the shelter; or so injured that it would be cruel to continue the suffering.
The sad truth is that the majority of pets taken into the shelter are never adopted and end their lives here. We encourage persons who have an unwanted pet or stray that they cannot keep to first have the pet spayed or neutered and then please try to find someone to provide a loving, responsible home for that animal before bringing it to the shelter.
We are not an animal care center and cannot provide veterinary care to animals that are not surrendered to the shelter. We do not have a veterinarian on-staff, but are greatful to the local veterinarians who work so closely with us in our efforts to alleviate the suffering of these helpless animals.
We rely heavily on the generosity of the community to help provide any extra care that we can. Without generous donations and contributions, the lives of the animals in the shelter would be shorter and much less comfortable. For those donations and contributions, we say Thank You!
