Over these short six months, the time I spent meeting the grandparents from the English Club hosted by the Chinese American Community Health Services (CACHS) each week—connected through a screen—has been truly meaningful. Every week, they would wait eagerly in front of their screens before class began, and their seriousness and perseverance throughout the learning process deeply moved me. Although they initially struggled with pronunciation and vocabulary, and sometimes faced internet delays or unfamiliar technology, none of this ever diminished their enthusiasm for learning. Their determination and persistence greatly inspired and impressed me.
This experience made me realize that, as the saying goes, “learning has no limits”—education is not restricted by age, and one can truly learn for a lifetime. This belief became my motivation to continue serving as a teaching assistant. I consciously slowed my speaking pace, patiently helping them practice pronunciation again and again, breaking down words and explaining vocabulary to support their understanding. Rather than simply teaching, this experience felt more like cross-linguistic communication and mutual encouragement. It helped me better understand the importance of listening and patience.
Finally, I sincerely wish that the online English Club from CACHS will continue to grow and improve, helping more seniors learn English and serving as a bridge that connects older adults and younger generations.
