CACHS Holds 2026 Staff and Volunteer Training

On June 14, 2026, Chinese American Community Health Services (CACHS) successfully held its annual Staff and Volunteer Training at A Plus Adult Medical Day Care Center in Rockville, Maryland. Nearly 40 CACHS staff members and volunteer leaders participated in the training program.

Dr. Min Li, Deputy Executive Director, opened the event and emphasized the importance of volunteer training in strengthening CACHS’s capacity to provide high-quality community health services. As a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization, CACHS relies on the dedication and commitment of its volunteers to advance health equity and improve access to health resources for underserved community members.

During the training, Dr. Shuling Zhang, Chair of the CACHS Board of Directors, introduced the newly elected Board and announced the Board’s decision to appoint Professor Yining Wang, one of the founders of CACHS, as Lifetime Honorary President in recognition of his outstanding leadership and long-standing contributions to the organization.

Dr. Wei Liao, Deputy Executive Director, delivered a training presentation on the roles and responsibilities of Community Health Workers (CHWs). Her presentation highlighted the challenges faced by underserved populations, including language barriers, limited access to healthcare services, and social isolation among seniors. She also discussed effective communication skills, service ethics, and the critical role of volunteers in connecting community members with healthcare and social resources.

The training also featured HIPAA compliance sessions presented by Dr. Jenny Wang and Dr. Chongfei Jin. Through practical guidance and real-life case studies, participants learned essential principles for protecting personal health information, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring compliance with healthcare privacy regulations during community service activities.

To further strengthen volunteers’ understanding of the organization, CACHS Executive Director Dr. Ningping Feng provided an overview of CACHS’s mission, vision, organizational structure, major programs, and executive management team. The presentation helped participants gain a deeper understanding of the organization’s development, strategic goals, and service priorities.

Following the training, participants enjoyed a networking dinner and engaged in introductions, volunteer experience sharing, and discussions on future community service opportunities. Attendees expressed that the training was informative, practical, and inspiring, enhancing both their professional knowledge and commitment to serving the community.

CACHS is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health equity and improving access to health and social services for underserved Asian American communities in the Washington metropolitan area.
